A small forge for logic puzzles
Gatesmith is the first game from Timeburn, a home for solid logic puzzles. It started as a daily puzzle for people who wanted something that was not about words or numbers. It grew out of a simple logic gate simulator: once the simulator could compute truth tables, turning them into puzzles was the obvious next step.
What makes it different
Most puzzle sites ship a fixed list of levels. Gatesmith's daily puzzle is designed each night by our own AI and then checked by code that does not trust it. The rule becomes a truth table, designs that are constant, trivial or repeats are rejected, and a small exhaustive search finds the fewest gates that can build it. That search sets the "best known" count you are trying to beat. If the forge is ever unavailable, a hand-made puzzle from the practice set steps in, so there is always a puzzle at midnight UTC.
Hints work the same way. The Gatesmith, the forge's in-game voice, sees the puzzle, your actual circuit and the rows that are still wrong, and answers in a sentence or two. You get a handful of hints per day so the forge stays responsive for everyone.
Self-hosted and private
Gatesmith runs on hardware we own, including the AI. Nothing you build is sent to an outside AI company, there are no accounts, and the only thing we remember about you is the nickname you choose to post. The privacy policy has the full list.
Ads and money
Gatesmith is free and has no accounts. It shows a small number of ads to cover the electricity and the domain. Ads are served by Google AdSense; what they collect and how to opt out is explained in the privacy policy. There are no paywalls, no "energy" timers and no dark patterns.
Credits
- The simulator engine (gate evaluation, truth tables, modules and flip-flops) is original code written for this project.
- Puzzle text is written by the forge and lightly filtered; if a puzzle is wrong or unclear, tell us and it will be fixed or removed.
- Everything is plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with no frameworks and no trackers.
